Appreciating Elva

Elva Cowell has been Torch Lake Township Clerk, President of the Central Lake District Library Board, Membership Chair of the Wilkinson Homestead Historical Society . . . you get the idea. Wherever you go on this side of the County, Elva will be there before you, setting out the agendas, organizing the committees and fluffing up the refreshments table. She will always tell you straight out what she thinks you need to know, and she will do it nicely. This is why she is much admired, and why Mar DeTar and Bobbie Patterson and a hundred or so of her nearest and dearest friends organized a farewell dinner for her earlier this month.

Don’t panic – she’s coming back from Florida when she gets good and ready, but she’s cutting back on some of her volunteer obligations and has resigned from the Library Board to free up some playtime.  Cal Shooks is succeeding her as President, and she dragooned me into filling out the remainder of her term as a Library Trustee.  We’ll try to live up to her expectations.

Linda Reich, Bobbie Patterson and I took as many pictures as we could of the dinner, the Board, the cake . . . all the usual suspects.  As always, click on the photo to see a larger version.  The tiara Elva’s wearing was in the pile of farewell presents. She’ll kill me when she sees this—if she can catch me.
