This morning we had a lovely walk and stopped to admire the Bay. There I was, leashes looped on one wrist, YakTrax planted firmly, camera to nose, trying to capture the view, when the deer came bounding along just below the crest of the bluff. And another. And another. At least half a dozen of ’em. Even though this is, after all, a public access site, the dogs took exception. I skidded across the icy road on my YakTrax, pulled along by Miss Sadie and the Cowboy in full Sled Dogs of the North mode. My fingers froze. My camera banged my face. I clutched the leashes in a death grip and resigned myself to my fate.
All of this affected the quality of my photos, but I did manage to get a couple with deer in them. I know this looks like a turkey going north, accompanied by a rabbit on the rail, but it’s really a deer going south. And no, the Bay is not tilting toward Elk Rapids. I am listing toward Charlevoix.
