Christmas at the Ellsworth Farmers Exchange, by Babs Young

Posted on December 15, 2008

I love all the photos Babs sends us, but this may be my favorite.  Something about it reminds me of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks—except that here there’s a door.  A way in, and a way out.  What Babs wrote is this:  You never know where you will find a little Christmas cheer. Here we are at Ellsworth Farmers Exchange with magenta and orange icicles. WOW!

Christmas at the Ellsworth Farmers Exchange

I love the tire tracks. The neon Open sign. The glimpse of the clerk at the computer terminal, and the customer in the winter jacket . . . the wreath, the stack of feed sacks, the textures of the siding and the snow and the light – and yes, the orange and magenta icicles!

Every week photographer Babs Young captures moments in northern Michigan, and every week she sends one to Torch Lake Views just for you. You can find more of her photos by following the Babs Young Photos link in the Categories list over in the right column, or by going to her Michigan Pictures Archives: 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
