The best thing about the Winter Solstice (at this latitude anyway) is that each day after that will have a few more minutes of sunshine. OK, what passes for sunshine during our winters. Not-darkness anyway. Every year Raven Hill Discovery Center (between East Jordan and Boyne City) celebrates the turning of the seasons with a party. This year, writes director Cheri Leach:
Visitors can enjoy a walk over the boardwalk to the Ancient World exhibit, where a bonfire will burn on Sunday, December 21st in honor of the end of fall and the beginning of winter. Everyone will enjoy the luminaries donated by Bullfrog Candle Company along the walk to the bonfire & back to Raven Hill Discovery Center afterward. Bring your family and friends, plus some food to share and join us for a fun-filled family outing starting at 5 pm!! Be sure to plan on playing in the museum and seeing the animals afterward while you warm up. Call 231.536.3369 to register for the evening and / or to reserve some snowshoes, if needed.
I like Raven Hill. I believe I may have mentioned its charms before. I recommend you bundle the family in the car and head over there on the 21st.

You are entirely welcome. If I can get Bob or someone else to work for me on December 21 you will see me then. Otherwise . . . how about New Year’s Eve?
