Gerry—While driving to Charlevoix today I spied a large bird…. um…. or was it a modern art sculpture? I’m still not sure what it is but it was some kind of machine and it was for sale. If you have any idea let me know. Katherine
I have no idea—but I pulled over and took pictures of it too! (Yours is better!) Someone who’s reading this will have an idea. It looks a lot like the equipment in the center of this real-life Tonka Toy setup (also on US-31 on the way to Charlevoix.)
We’d better ask Daugherty Johnson. Daugherty knows everything worth knowing about farm equipment.

I bet it’s an AUstralian blackberry bush killer machine. Honestly – they treat them as noxious weeds over here and as they are my favorite fruit – I get really ticked off when I can’t buy a single one in the shops.
I was looking in April, and they finally reappeared – frozen ones, in September. Not a canned one to be seen! It’s a conspiracy!

The first picture looks like a robot anteater to me.

Leslie, as someone who’s had a blackberry patch turn into an impenetrable bramble I have a certain amount of sympathy for the noxious weed contingent. But I love blackberries, too – thank goodness I can buy them from Merrifield Farm.
D, I think you may be onto something. Makes me want to go put a giant ant sculpture next to the infernal machine.
