Time to read books about polar bears

Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and I opened the door on a suspiciously still and warmish morning.  Easing our way into our walk, we were yawning in front of Bruce and Karen’s as they were heading to church.  We exchanged pleasantries.  Then Karen said the dreaded words.  “They’re saying it’s going to be really muggy today.”  I hate muggy.

So here’s a little something to cool you off on a muggy day. Remember what it was like in February? (For that matter, I seem to recall there were days like this in April, too.)

These books should do the trick, too:

The Cage, by Audrey Schulman – a memorably chilling tale of grit and survival set in the arctic tundra beyond Churchill, Manitoba. A young nature photographer gets quite a bit more up close and personal with polar bears than I would care to. Don’t even think about reading this book in November – but it’s a great choice for August.  (I read it several years ago and just thinking about it cools me right off.)

Winston of Churchill, by Jean Davies Okimoto – a children’s book I ran across while hunting up the link to The Cage.  It looked engaging.
