A bit of Grand Traverse Bay winds through Elk Rapids, around the sandy “island” where the Noble house was turned into the library – through Veterans Park, past a wonderful old dreaming tree – and back out into itself. Along the way it makes lovely places for children to play on a perfect July day. This is one of them, captured by Babs Young.

That little library on the island is absolutely charming. The village of Paw Paw, down in Van Buren County, has a nice island in town, but having their library on an island makes Elk Rapids unique in my experience.
A comment on watering gardens from your previous post: yes, yes, it’s meditative! Life is so rushed already that I do not understand people wanting to speed it up even more. Washing dishes by hand is meditative, as is hanging laundry out on the line with clothespins, and most certainly watering, weeding, pruning, etc. These are the joys of life.
