Happy Fourth of July – Fireworks – Poetry – History – and sparklers on the beach

For everyone who wondered whether we’d have any Summer People this year – they’re baa-ack! The No Vacancy sign was up at the Torch Bay Inn last night. Campfires crackled at Barnes Park. Little kids waved sparklers on the beach. The parking lot overflowed at the IGA. When I walked the dogs this morning I saw cars parked at practically every cottage on Michigan Trail. Multiple cars. Not only is everyone up for the weekend, but they all brought their friends, too.  So welcome – have a good time – be safe and happy.  Here are some things to do to celebrate:

Fireworks tonight

  • Central Lake – lots going on all day, plus you can always find whatever you really need at Bachmann’s
  • South Torch Lake – best viewing from land is Crystal Beach Road or South West Torch Lake Drive; Alden; 322-2395
  • Can’t get to one of these?  For a truly wonderful fireworks photo, follow the link to the Leland Report for July 3, 2008.  Keith has outdone himself.
