Salesman\'s sampler of children\'s booksChris and Sonny Szejbach took advantage of a slow afternoon on a sunny day to get School House Antiques ready for the summer.  The “Open” flag was flapping in the breeze, and chaos reigned inside.  “I bought too much!” Chris laughed.  “I’m trying to figure out where to put it all!”  She showed me a wonderful salesman’s sample book from the turn of the last century, with covers and excerpts from five different children’s books.  (I’m a sucker for old children’s books.  Comes of spending lots of time with my nose in them when I visited my grandparents.)

Besides the antiques the School House is known for, Chris and Sonny will stock Torch Lake sweatshirts, games for the grandchildren, and decor for the cottage.  They will accept items on consignment, too.  Give Chris a call at the market: 599-2357.

This one\'s not for sale! They’d been cleaning and sorting and arranging all afternoon, so they were entitled to a little break.  Chris sank into her favorite chair.  “This one isn’t for sale!” she laughed.

Sonny and Sadie share the settee“This one is,” said Sonny, who shared a wicker settee with Sadie, the store mascot.

Beginning in May the shop will be open from 11-6 Monday through Saturday, and from 11-3 on Sunday, but feel free to stop by anytime the “Open” banner is out. Chris will stop sorting and arranging to help you find something special.
