Just when you thought there was no hope for an elegant “season” in Torch Lake Township, along comes Boomeropia. The new boomer travel website has a category called “glamping” – glamorous camping. Imagine the possibilities. Concierge service at Barnes Park. Tent delivery of fresh whitefish from Sonny’s. French wines flying off the shelves at the IGA. The Olde Towne Hall Pub. “Gallery Sneakins – Wildlife Art for the Connoisseur.” Corporate jets landing at the Torchport. Cruise ships anchoring off the Torch Bay Nature Preserve. I can see it now . . .
Hello? I’d like to reserve one of your glamping spots for the week of July 4.
Certainly, madam. We have one left. It’s just at the edge of the glamorous section, a few yards from the Massive RV section. I assure you there will be no backpackers in the immediate vicinity.
Well . . . . I suppose I should have scheduled sooner. What about the first week in August?
I’m sorry, madam. The glamorous section is fully booked in August – the Traverse City Film Festival you know.
Tim Paczesny over at Education Outdoors will have to design a whole new GLAMP Board Game. Eden Shores residents will get together to develop a sulphur-scented spa in the water meadow, offering hot stone massage with hand-harvested Petoskey stones. Can national recognition as the in place for the in people to congregate be far behind? I think not.
