Saturday was a pretty day for a drive, and I had company, so off we went – breakfast at Sonny’s, a little shopping at Stuff ‘n’ Such in Elk Rapids, some picture-taking along the Bay – and a visit to Pine Hill Nursery on our way back to the Writing Studio and Bait Shop. It’s warm in the greenhouse, and humid – you remember humidity! Best of all, it smells of sun-warmed earth and growing things. There’s a whole table full of fragrant herbs, and acres of annuals beginning to show a little color.
Pine Hill opens officially on April 1, no foolin’ – but if you’re driving by and the door’s open, Sandy Naples says they’ll be happy to wait on you right now. They’re planting the hanging baskets and potting posies so feel free to drop in. (They’ve also updated the Pine Hill website. Take a look at the new and improved version!)
