Fire scene the next morning

Today was a pretty good day to wander around so we took advantage. First we went to the scene of last night’s fire. Here’s what the burned semi looked like on a lovely summer morning. Who would’ve thought it could make so much thick black smoke?

Fire - burned semi

It seems the fire was centered on the cab and the sleeping area behind it. I wondered whether kids had been hanging out there and managed to start a fire. Then I got mad at myself for falling prey to the “It must have been kids” mindset. It has been my observation that a great deal of mischief attributed to “kids” can in fact be laid at the door of, um, “un-kids.”

While I was taking pictures, Warren and Angie Drogt drove up. The Drogt family owns the neighboring property, and Warren and Angie heard the commotion last night. They said the semi had only been parked there for a day or two. I couldn’t figure out what had caused such a huge smoke column without blowing all the tires, but maybe the fire department just put the fire out quickly. The left front tire was melted, and the cab and sleeping area were destroyed, so I suppose there are plenty of explanations for the smoke. Thank goodness no one was in the cab when it was enveloped.

I haven’t talked to the owner of the land or the owner of the semi, so I don’t really know exactly what happened. Sure was the topic of conversation around the Township today, though.
