The ice is gone from the part of Grand Traverse Bay that I can see. Torch Lake is still trapped, but it’s only a matter of days. No matter what Mud Season has in store for us, spring is winning. Not a moment too soon if you ask me.
Today sort of got away from me. I have no idea where it went, but this is where it ended up.

Gerry, it looks to me as though it was ending down in a beautiful glow.

It was. We had a nice ride through the county at dusk, listening to an NPR story about Hatshepsut. I think it was a repeat, but I hadn’t heard it before, and it was compelling. My favorite part: after Hatshepsut’s death her stepson apparently tried to obliterate her image and her history everywhere, but it turned out to be really hard to remove it from a huge obelisk. His solution was to cover the surface of the obelisk, essentially bricking it in – thus preserving the inscriptions about Hatshepsut for thoursands of years! History is full of irony.

Even the thought of mud makes me smile this morning. What’s wrong with me?

Just a little homesickness. Take time to smell the spring flowers as you wend your way north!
