“Gerry, come look at this!” OK. I trailed after Angie, out the back door of the IGA. Hanging up there in the sky was a perfect new moon pointing at Venus.
It was warmer inside, where displays compete for attention near the entrance. Flower and vegetable seeds next to insulated gloves and ice scrapers. Must be spring in Michigan.

Gerry! I saw that moon & Venus too! Didn’t know it was Venus, though, so thank you for sharing that. As for those seeds, I was thinking about writing a gardening blog soon. About time here in Michigan don’t you think? Maybe a tad sooner for you than us, though…

I’m thinking of putting a hoop house over my whole house. It would warm the place up considerably. Still couldn’t have much of a garden, though – too many trees, too little sun. I have what I call my beach garden – all kinds of things grow down there and I’m not even halfway to recognizing them.

Wasn’t it gorgeous? Was out walking the dog in the cold, crisp, 3 freakin’ degrees and the only thing that kept us walking was the beauty of the night.

It’s funny – the dogs get us out there to begin with, and then we find something wonderful. Give Maya a pet from me. (Bet she’d like a nice squirrel.)

Gerry, I called Dennis about the Moon/Venus conjunction because Bonnie called me out to the backyard to see it. He picked up the call instantly; he was all set to call me about it but I beat him to it. We both get email about these occurrences from NASA: Link to “Pretty Sky Alert”

I get email from Garrison Keillor about poetry and Michael Moore about films and Aurora Chasers about Northern Lights, but email from NASA about pretty skies is something I didn’t know about until just now. Wow. OK, I’m gonna go sign up too.

I would love to garden but have little time to do so . but I will leave the growing up to the CSA it sounds like a really great idea. The extent of my growing this year will be a few flowers . I am sooo ready for spring and Gerry spring is when the little purple and white flowers are peaking through the snow.

Barbara, I’m going to watch for tiny purple and white flowers when I come for my haircut.

I also saw the moon/venus peeking through the trees while walking the dog, very captivating. Checked out the NASA site, very interesting, I will be checking it out more often. Thanks Also saw the big dipper with its handle pointed to the ground does that have a specific meaning?

Dunno, Alley. The big dipper (aka “the drinking gourd”) certainly revolves in the sky, but I haven’t paid enough attention to observe its patterns. The main thing I know about it is that if you can see it, you’re in the northern hemisphere, and if you can’t, you’re probably not! I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately to how much attention ancient peoples paid to the skies. Imagine the navigators who set out across the vast Pacific with nothing but the stars and their conviction that there was “something out there.”
