The Google Road to Christmas

Here I am again, examining the search terms people use to get here, brought up short by “healthy things to do before Christmas.”  I have no idea why Google or some other search engine decided to send those people to Torch Lake Views, but what a good idea for a post . . .

Six healthy things you can do before Christmas:

  1. Vote.  (This presumes that you are reading this before November 4 and from a location in the U.S.  Post-election ballot box stuffing would definitely not be healthy.)
  2. Go for a walk in the woods before firearms season starts.  Wear blaze orange anyway.
  3. Read a book to a child.
  4. Put a nice stash of Antrim County apples in cold storage and have one every day.  If you don’t like apples, try dried cherries or cherry juice instead.
  5. Keep the Yak-Trax handy.  Icy steps are inevitable.  (This is a memo to self.)
  6. Celebrate Thanksgiving with all your heart.  Be with some people you love, or if that is not possible this year, be with some people who need you.

So now I wonder, Searchers—did that help?  I notice that a lot of the links that show up are about preventing stress and saving money and sticking to a budget.  Hm.  Best suggestion: Decide that you will not define Christmas by its presents, or its parties, or its perceived obligations.  Instead, take the road less traveled, and find your own pinescented candlelit haven.  Bring your children with you.  Bring your friends and neighbors with you.  Tell each other good stories.  Share some food.  Be at peace.
