Blog watching – what makes people click anyway?

The software I use for this blog tells me a lot about how people find Torch Lake Views, and what they’re interested in when they get here. (No, it doesn’t tell me what pages you, personally, are reading. It’s just an overall count.) On the one hand, it’s a humbling experience. Some of the posts I love are, shall we say, not read as enthusiastically as others . . . On the other hand, it’s fascinating to read the list of search terms, and to see what little stories attract the most attention. So here are some things I’m wondering about:

  • Why all the renewed interest in the milk hauler that slid off Essex Road last spring? Did some other website pick up the story? Is somebody suing somebody? Is there a new interest group that collects photos of milk haulers in distress? Amazing. Mysterious.
  • Did the person who got to TLV through a search for “new york city scenic drive day trip” decide to make a really long day trip to Torch Lake Township?  If s/he did, was the decision based on the promise of goodies from New York Cakes at the end of the road?
  • What is it with the wolves? The posts about Daugherty Johnson’s snow sculptures are among my personal favorites, but I’m astonished at the number of people who are interested in wolves in a general way and in snow wolves in particular. Daugherty, you’re in danger of becoming a famous artist.
  • Why are so many people looking for gifts with a Torch Lake theme? Did they forget to buy souvenirs while they were here? Did they mean to buy presents for all their friends but then decide they didn’t want to carry them home?  Or are they maybe thinking of sending us hostess presents?  Shall I start a gift registry?
